Improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication aids in controlling blood sugar levels effectively for patients with type 2 diabetes through dietary and exercise regimens. It can be administered alone at the initiation of treatment and may be combined with metformin for patients with no prior diabetes treatment experience. Additionally, this medication can be added in cases where blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin. If adequate blood sugar control is not achieved with complex combination therapies, this medication can be further added to enhance treatment efficacy. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control at various treatment stages.
This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg, either as monotherapy or in combination, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. Dosage adjustments are required based on kidney function. - Mild renal impairment (eGFR ≥ 60 and < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2): No dosage adjustment needed - Moderate renal impairment (eGFR ≥ 45 and < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2): No dosage adjustment needed
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and may cause serious allergic reactions in some patients after administration. These allergic reactions may include symptoms such as skin rash, angioedema, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis; therefore, if skin or respiratory symptoms appear after taking the medication, it should be discontinued immediately and medical attention sought. Furthermore, this medication can cause severe side effects such as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort occurs during treatment, a hospital visit should be made immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and it should also not be used in individuals with a severe allergy to the drug or its components. Patients with impaired kidney function may experience delayed excretion of this medication, necessitating dosage adjustments, and regular kidney function tests are important. Patients in clinical trials who took this medication commonly experienced side effects such as upper respiratory tract infections, headaches, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and others. In particular, when taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so careful monitoring of blood sugar changes is necessary. This medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and its safety in children under 18 years has not been established. Elderly individuals may have a higher risk of reduced kidney function, thus requiring dosage adjustments and kidney function monitoring. In case of overdose, general supportive care measures should be taken, and blood dialysis may be considered for removal if necessary. If symptoms such as joint pain or skin blistering appear during the use of this medication, consult a doctor immediately; these symptoms may improve after discontinuation of the medication.
