Reduction of cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia, and mitigation of the risk of cardiovascular disease through increased HDL.
This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B proteins, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, it effectively controls lipid levels in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when used alone or in combination with other therapies. This medication is recommended to be used alongside a proper diet and in cases where non-drug therapies are insufficiently effective. It should be administered with careful consideration of the patient's overall risk factors, and it is crucial to check various lipid levels before treatment. By consistently taking this medication, lipid abnormalities can be improved, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meal timing. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dose range is 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day. The recommended initial dose is 10/10mg or 10/20mg once daily. For patients requiring more than a 55% reduction in LDL cholesterol, an initial dose of 10/40mg per day is recommended. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
This medication may cause severe muscle problems, so patients should inform their physician immediately of any sudden muscle pain or weakness accompanied by fever. Patients with severe infections, hypotension, major surgeries or trauma, or uncontrolled seizures should temporarily discontinue or stop this medication. Furthermore, individuals with allergies to this medication, liver disease, muscle disorders, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with a history of alcohol dependence or compromised liver function, reduced kidney function, or hypothyroidism should also use caution. Taking this medication with certain other drugs may increase the risk of muscle damage, so it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist about any other medications being taken. Regular liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment, and the medication should be discontinued immediately if symptoms of liver damage occur. This medication can elevate blood sugar levels, so patients at risk for diabetes should manage their blood sugar diligently. Dizziness or headaches may occur, requiring caution while driving or operating machinery. Women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive methods while taking this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed, they should discontinue it immediately. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, hence it is not recommended. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be provided based on symptoms while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.
