This medication is used to assist in controlling blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes in conjunction with dietary management and exercise. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications to enhance therapeutic effects. Improved blood glucose management with this medication can help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients without prior experience of diabetes medication treatment or when used as monotherapy, it can be administered in combination with metformin at a dosage of 50 mg once daily in the morning, or 100 mg divided into 50 mg twice daily in the morning and evening. When used in combination with metformin or thiazolidinedione, the recommended dosage is 100 mg daily, divided into 50 mg twice daily in the morning and evening. When used in combination with sulfonylurea, the dosage is as recommended.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to its active ingredient or other components. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or those with diabetic ketoacidosis. Since this medication contains lactose, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. While taking this medication, liver function abnormalities may rarely occur, so it's important to receive regular liver function tests. If liver function test results rise above three times the normal upper limit, the medication should be discontinued, and if symptoms of liver disease arise, consult a physician immediately. This medication does not replace insulin, so patients needing insulin therapy should continue their insulin treatments. The use of this medication is not recommended for patients with heart failure, especially those with severe cases. Abnormal symptoms such as skin blisters or ulcers may occur, so report any such symptoms to medical personnel immediately. There is a risk of acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms of pancreatitis are suspected, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. When taking this medication with other diabetes drugs that can cause hypoglycemia, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is warranted. Symptoms such as dizziness or headaches may occur, so be careful when driving or operating machinery. It is safer not to use this medication for pregnant or breastfeeding women. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and supportive care may be required based on the symptoms. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis. Store this medication out of reach of children, and avoid transferring it to other containers.
