This medication helps to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels and increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is especially used in conjunction with dietary therapy for patients with heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it may be used as an adjunct or alternative to existing lipid-lowering therapy. This drug has only been studied for certain types of dyslipidemia, and the therapeutic effects and safety should consider the patient's other health conditions and risk factors. Additionally, before use, it should be confirmed whether there are secondary causes of dyslipidemia, and those causes should be treated if necessary. Appropriate dietary therapy and lifestyle improvements are crucial in conjunction with lipid-modifying medications, and it is used to improve vascular health by effectively lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.

Precautions

This medication may cause a rare side effect affecting muscles called rhabdomyolysis. If muscle pain or weakness worsens and renal function is compromised, immediate consultation with a physician is required. This drug should not be used in patients with certain liver diseases or abnormally high liver enzyme levels. Regular testing should be conducted if there are signs of altered liver function, and the medication should be discontinued if needed. Caution should be exercised in patients at high risk of muscle-related side effects, such as those with impaired kidney function, hypothyroidism, elderly patients, and those taking certain medications simultaneously. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication due to unknown effects on the fetus or infant. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is important to inform your physician or pharmacist about any other medications you are taking. Especially when taken with drugs that affect drug metabolism in the liver, the risk of side effects may increase. Symptoms such as dizziness, muscle pain, and abdominal pain may occur during treatment, so careful observation is required, and medical consultation should be sought if these symptoms appear. Regular blood tests to monitor liver function and muscle status during treatment are important, particularly in the initial weeks after beginning therapy. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children and are not recommended. Elderly patients should be cautious due to the risk of muscle side effects. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic with supportive care, while monitoring liver function and muscle status. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer the medication to other containers.
