Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other medications as part of a treatment plan that includes diet and exercise. This helps effectively manage blood sugar and improve symptoms of diabetes.
The recommended dosage of this medication for monotherapy or combination therapy is 20 mg once daily. It may be taken regardless of meals.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or any other components. It is not suitable for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, or type 1 diabetes, and should be avoided in situations requiring rapid blood sugar control. In patients with severe infections, pre- or post-surgical conditions, or severe traumas, insulin therapy may be required, so this medication is not recommended. In patients with severe liver dysfunction or heart failure, this medication should be used cautiously, and especially in cases of severe heart failure, it is best not to use it. Patients taking sulfonylureas or insulin are at risk of hypoglycemia and should be monitored closely. Caution is advised for patients with poor nutritional status, irregular meal intake, excessive exercise, or high alcohol consumption, as they may experience hypoglycemia. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction should observe abdominal symptoms closely while using this medication. Patients with a history of bradycardia or arrhythmias should also be cautious, as the use of this medication may prolong the QT interval. Acute pancreatitis symptoms may occur, so if abdominal pain or vomiting persists, immediate medical attention should be sought. While taking this medication, hypoglycemic symptoms may appear, so it is important to consume sugary foods when symptoms arise. Particularly when used with other diabetes medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, necessitating frequent blood sugar checks. Liver dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, and skin rashes or vesicular diseases may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult medical personnel promptly. This medication is not recommended for pregnant women, and breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before use. It is advisable not to use this medication in children, as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently confirmed. Elderly individuals may have decreased bodily functions, so their condition should be monitored carefully during administration. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal decontamination and clinical monitoring, including electrocardiogram, should be performed, and additional treatment should be administered as necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided. It is important to understand hypoglycemic symptoms and how to manage them while taking this medication, and to be cautious when driving or performing hazardous tasks. Additionally, if severe joint pain or blistering of the skin occurs, immediate notification to a physician and treatment should be sought. There may be interactions with other medications, so if receiving other treatments, inform medical personnel.
