This medication is used to control cholesterol and lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. Specifically, it helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol to improve cardiovascular health. It is also used to reduce cholesterol levels in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, either alone or in combination with other lipid-lowering treatments. This medication should be taken in conjunction with an appropriate diet and should be part of the process to identify and treat secondary causes of dyslipidemia. It is effective in reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication is used in the treatment of dyslipidemia and hypercholesterolemia.
