Improves blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as monotherapy to patients starting treatment, and if blood glucose control is difficult with monotherapy, it may be used in combination with metformin. Additionally, it can be further combined with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin in patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control with these treatments. This variety of treatment options effectively improves blood glucose control.
This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg as monotherapy or in combination therapy, with a maximum daily dosage of 100 mg. In cases of renal impairment, no dosage adjustment is necessary for mild to moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥ 45 mL/min/1.73 m²). For moderate renal impairment with a glomerular filtration rate between 30 and 45, administer 50 mg once daily.
This medication may cause allergic reactions; if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammatory condition of the pancreas, may develop, thus immediate medical attention is required if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Avoid taking this medication if you have allergies to this drug or its components. Patients with impaired renal function should have their dosage adjusted and take the medication under a physician's guidance. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur while using this medication, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, thus close monitoring of blood glucose levels is advised. If severe joint pain or skin blisters occur, consult a physician immediately and stop taking the medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication, and safety and effectiveness have not been established for children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients may experience decreased renal function, necessitating dosage adjustments and regular renal function tests. In case of overdose, visit a hospital immediately for appropriate treatment, as this medication may be partially removed via hemodialysis. This medication generally does not interact significantly with other medications, but caution is necessary when taken with specific drugs, so consult healthcare providers. Report any unusual symptoms during use to healthcare providers and take appropriate measures.
