View approved original text

This drug is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with metformin if prior drug treatment has not controlled blood sugar adequately. It is also used in combination when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin. Additionally, it can be administered to enhance effectiveness when blood sugar control is difficult even during combination therapy with sulfonylureas and metformin, thiazolidinediones and metformin, or insulin and metformin. By using it systematically, blood sugar control is improved.
