Improvement of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is suitable for patients who need to use both telmisartan and rosuvastatin simultaneously. Telmisartan helps in the treatment of essential hypertension, especially effective in high-risk patients aged 55 and over who cannot use ACE inhibitors, reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular diseases. Rosuvastatin is used as an adjunct to diet in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia, helping to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia, thus delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. Additionally, it is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and after procedures like stroke, myocardial infarction, and angioplasty. Therefore, this medication effectively improves the risk of cardiovascular diseases in patients with hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
For telmisartan, the recommended dose is 40 mg taken orally once daily, which may be effective at a dose of 20 mg once daily depending on the patient. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 80 mg daily. For reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, an oral dose of 80 mg once daily is recommended. Patients with liver impairment should not exceed 40 mg once daily. Rosuvastatin calcium should be started at a dose of 5 mg once daily.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if used during pregnancy, so it should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Women who are allergic to this medication, pregnant, breastfeeding, or of childbearing age not using adequate contraception should not take it. Patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, certain blood disorders, or muscle diseases should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with high potassium levels, and patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should use this medication cautiously and require monitoring of liver function tests and muscle-related symptoms. This medication may cause side effects such as muscle pain, liver function abnormalities, dizziness, dyspepsia, etc., and immediate consultation with a physician is necessary if such symptoms occur. Particularly in cases of severe muscle pain or weakness, a test for muscle damage (increased CK levels) should be conducted, and the medication should be discontinued if needed. This medication may interact with other medications, so patients must inform their healthcare providers about any other medications they are taking. Caution should be exercised as drowsiness or dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery.
