This medication helps lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels and increase good cholesterol, HDL, in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. Additionally, in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it is used as an adjunctive therapy to other lipid-lowering treatments and is administered as an alternative when those treatments are ineffective. This medication contributes to improving blood lipid levels when used in conjunction with dietary measures and reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease. Prior to treatment, other causes that may exacerbate dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, should be identified and treated if necessary. It also aids in determining treatment direction through early lipid testing upon admission for acute coronary events. This medication is used to support overall management of dyslipidemia, improve blood lipid levels, and protect cardiovascular health.
