Suppression of cardiovascular disease risk through cholesterol reduction and HDL increase in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia
This medication is an adjunct to diet for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is particularly used in cases where other treatments are not feasible or as monotherapy for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease; however, it is essential to check for other underlying conditions or medication use before administration. Additionally, it should be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet and special tests are recommended if triglyceride levels are high. Patients should continuously monitor lipid levels through blood tests during treatment. This medication is used to improve dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage range is from 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg per day. The recommended initial dose is 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg per day. For patients requiring a larger reduction in LDL cholesterol (55% or more), an initial dose of 10/40 mg per day is recommended. The recommended dose for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10/40 mg or 10/80 mg per day.
This medication has been reported to cause rare side effects such as rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to muscle pain or muscle weakness, and in severe cases, muscle tissue destruction affecting kidney function. Therefore, patients showing severe muscle symptoms, severe infections, hypotension, major surgery, trauma, or endocrine disturbances that may impact kidney function should temporarily discontinue or stop taking this medication. Patients with allergies to the active ingredient or components of this medication, severe liver dysfunction, muscle disorders, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, or those taking certain medications should not take this medication. Patients with a history of alcohol addiction or liver disease, severe hepatic dysfunction, poor kidney function, hypothyroidism, a family history of muscle disorders, and elderly patients should use this medication with caution. As this medication can affect liver function, regular liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment, and any symptoms of liver dysfunction should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Symptoms such as dizziness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, and fatigue may occur during treatment; if these symptoms are severe or persistent, consultation with a physician is advised. This medication can interact with various other medications, so patients taking other medications must inform their healthcare providers, especially when combined with drugs affecting liver metabolism, as dosage adjustments or caution may be necessary. Women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraceptive methods to avoid pregnancy while taking this medication and should stop taking it immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. The safety and efficacy of this medication for children have not been established, and caution should be used in elderly patients due to a higher risk of muscle disorders. In the case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, it is important to manage treatment based on symptoms and monitor liver function and muscle enzyme levels. Keep this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container.
