This medication is used as an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in heterozygous familial and non-familial cases. It can also be administered to patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, either in conjunction with or as an alternative to other existing lipid-lowering therapies when such therapies are not feasible. This medicine is recommended for patients who have insufficient response to appropriate diet and other non-drug treatments and should be used considering the patient's other health conditions and risk factors. Prior to treatment, it is important to confirm the presence of other causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, and treat them if necessary. Accurate measurement of lipid levels is crucial. Overall, this medication is utilized to effectively manage lipid levels, thereby helping to lower the risk of vascular diseases associated with hypercholesterolemia.
