Lipid improvement through reduction of cholesterol and increase of HDL in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia
This medication is an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, and for improving HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and heterozygous familial and non-familial dyslipidemia. Additionally, it is used as an adjunct in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other treatments have proven ineffective, helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This medication should be used in conjunction with lifestyle changes such as limiting intake of saturated fats and cholesterol, and it is crucial to verify the presence of other secondary causes of dyslipidemia before administration. This treatment helps to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease associated with hypercholesterolemia.
This medication is taken once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, an initial dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg once daily is recommended. For patients requiring a higher reduction in LDL cholesterol levels (more than 55%), an initial dose of 10/40 mg once daily is recommended. Dosage adjustments should be made after checking lipid levels at intervals of at least two weeks. For homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia,
This medication is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. Before taking this medication, patients should inform their doctors immediately if they experience symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, or muscle cramps. Although rare, these symptoms can progress to severe muscle damage known as rhabdomyolysis, which may affect kidney function. Patients with liver function issues or abnormally high liver enzyme levels should not use this medication and must undergo regular liver function tests during treatment. This medication may increase the risk of side effects when taken with certain drugs, so patients should inform their doctors or pharmacists if they are taking other medications, especially those affecting liver metabolism or muscle function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should use this medication with caution and may require dosage adjustments or regular monitoring. In the event of an overdose, there is no specific antidote; patients should seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment and supportive care, and kidney function and muscle enzyme levels should be monitored. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication and to strictly adhere to prescribed dosages and regimens. Furthermore, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur.
