Lipid improvement due to reduction of cholesterol in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia and increase in HDL
This medication helps lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing levels of HDL cholesterol, commonly referred to as good cholesterol. It plays a particularly important role in complementing or replacing other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and may contribute to reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. This medication must be used in conjunction with appropriate dietary adjustments, and it is important to manage any other secondary causal diseases. Blood lipid levels should be monitored periodically before and during treatment to assess efficacy. This medication is used to improve blood lipid status in patients with dyslipidemia and to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases.
This medication is taken once a day, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, doses range from 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day. The recommended initial dose is 10/10mg or 10/20mg per day, and for patients requiring a larger reduction in LDL cholesterol, the recommended initial dose is 10/40mg per day. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, blood lipid levels should be checked after at least a 2-week interval.
This medication may pose a risk of muscle problems; therefore, any symptoms of muscle pain or weakness should be reported to a physician immediately. Particularly, serious myopathy or rhabdomyolysis may occur, and treatment should be discontinued if such symptoms arise. Patients with poor liver function or a history of liver disease should not use this medication, and liver function tests should be performed regularly before and during treatment. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or in women who might become pregnant, as well as in nursing mothers. Additionally, patients with certain liver diseases, muscle diseases, or lactose intolerance should not use this medication. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if you are currently taking any other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist. Special caution is required when taken with drugs that affect liver metabolism or drugs that increase the risk of muscle complications. Elderly patients or patients with impaired kidney function have a higher risk of muscle problems and should use this medication with extra caution. There may be risks of dizziness when driving or operating machinery, and caution is advised. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment and supportive care based on the symptoms are needed, as well as monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. Regular check-ups and careful observations for abnormal symptoms are essential during the course of this medication.
