Lipid control effect through cholesterol reduction and HDL increase in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with familial or non-familial primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also prescribed for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other lipid-lowering therapies are not effective or additional therapy is needed. This medication helps improve vascular health by controlling lipid levels in patients at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. However, prior to treating dyslipidemia, secondary causes such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, and liver disease should be identified and managed, and it should be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet for effectiveness. Regular lipid testing to monitor treatment efficacy is also important. Therefore, this medication is useful in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and related dyslipidemia.
This medication should be administered once daily regardless of meals. For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, a dosage range of 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day is prescribed, with a recommended starting dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg daily. For patients requiring greater LDL cholesterol reduction, a starting dose of 10/40mg daily is recommended. After prescribing, lipid levels in the blood should be checked at intervals of no less than 2 weeks.
This medication can cause a rare side effect that affects the muscles, known as rhabdomyolysis, so if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, notify a doctor immediately. Particularly, patients with serious infections, hypotension, after major surgery, trauma, or metabolic disorders may need to temporarily halt or discontinue the administration of this medication. Patients allergic to any ingredients in this medication or those with liver disease, muscle disease, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised in individuals with a history of alcohol dependence, impaired liver function, reduced kidney function, hypothyroidism, or a family history of muscle-related diseases. This medication can affect liver function; therefore, liver function tests should be conducted before administration and monitored regularly during treatment. Side effects such as muscle pain, fatigue, headache, indigestion, and diarrhea may occur, so if symptoms are severe or persistent, inform healthcare professionals. This medication can interact with other drugs, so if you are taking any other medications, notify your healthcare provider, especially when combined with specific antibiotics, antivirals, or antifungal agents. Women of childbearing potential must use appropriate contraceptive methods to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication and should immediately discontinue use if pregnancy is confirmed. Dizziness may occur, so caution should be taken with driving or operating machinery while on this medication. The safety and effectiveness of this medication for children have not been established, and it is not recommended. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic with liver function and muscle-related examinations performed. Keep out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer to another container.
