This drug helps to control lipid levels in primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in heterozygous familial and non-familial cases. It lowers total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. Additionally, it is used as an adjunct therapy in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and may be prescribed alone if necessary. This medication is prescribed in conjunction with an inadequate diet, and it is important to identify and treat secondary causes before initiating therapy. It contributes to reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases caused by hypercholesterolemia, and monitoring blood lipid levels before and after medication administration is required. Due to these characteristics, this drug is effectively used in the treatment of dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This drug may cause a rare side effect known as rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to acute renal failure. Therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, inform your doctor immediately. In particular, patients with severe infections, hypotension, major surgery or trauma, and severe metabolic disorders should temporarily or permanently discontinue this medication. Patients with allergies to this drug or with active liver disease, muscle disorders, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and patients taking certain other medications should not take this drug. Caution is advised for patients with alcohol dependence, poor liver function, renal impairment, hypothyroidism, and the elderly, as they may need to use this medication carefully. Additionally, concomitant use with certain specific drugs may increase the risk of muscle damage. During treatment, regular tests of liver function and muscle enzyme levels (CPK) should be performed to detect any abnormalities early. If symptoms such as liver dysfunction, muscle pain, muscle weakness, dizziness, or dyspepsia occur, consult a doctor immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid using this drug as it may harm the fetus, and effective contraception is necessary; if pregnancy is confirmed, discontinuation of the drug is required. Breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid taking this medication. This drug is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been established. The elderly should be particularly cautious due to a higher risk of muscle abnormalities. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic, and liver function and muscle enzyme levels should be monitored. Store this medicine out of the reach of children, and do not transfer it to another container. Finally, caution should be exercised as dizziness may occur during driving or operating machinery.
