Reduction of cholesterol in primary hypercholesterolemia (homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia and suppression of cardiovascular disease risk through increasing HDL.
This medication helps lower total cholesterol and bad cholesterol, such as LDL-cholesterol, in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, especially familial and non-familial patients, while increasing good cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol. It can also be used safely and effectively in patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to other lipid-lowering therapies. This medication is recommended to be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet, and when diet alone is not sufficient, it is used as an adjunct. It is also important to identify and treat secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism before use. In summary, this medication is used to effectively manage cardiovascular health by improving dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg daily. The suggested starting dose is 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg daily. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL-cholesterol (more than 55%), a starting dose of 10/40 mg is recommended. Dose adjustments should be made after checking blood lipid levels at intervals of at least 2 weeks. Homozygous.
This medication has been reported to cause a rare side effect of rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to serious muscle damage. Therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, it is essential to inform a doctor immediately. Patients at high risk of myopathy, such as those with a history of alcohol abuse or liver disease, those with poor kidney function, hypothyroidism, and the elderly should use this medication with caution. This medication may cause side effects such as muscle pain, abdominal pain, and elevated liver enzymes, so if unusual symptoms arise, consultation with a doctor is advised. Liver function tests should be conducted before starting and regularly during treatment, and if signs of liver damage appear, the medication should be discontinued. This medication should not be administered to pregnant or nursing women, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception while taking this medication. Its safety and efficacy have not been established in children, so it is not recommended for use in pediatric patients. Caution is required for the elderly due to the high risk of myopathy, but no separate dosage adjustment is necessary. There may be interactions with other medications during treatment, so any other medications being taken should be reported to a doctor or pharmacist. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment and supportive therapy should be provided while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels.
