This medication helps to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, while raising HDL cholesterol levels. It is especially used as an adjunct to diet in patients with heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia. In cases of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it is administered when other lipid-lowering treatments are not effective or when additional help is needed. It is also part of the treatment regimen to lower the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease related to hypercholesterolemia, and it is essential to take this medication along with an appropriate diet. This medication should be used while closely monitoring the patient's lipid status, and evaluations and treatments for other secondary causes should also be conducted. Overall, this medication is very effective for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
