This medication helps lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or familial hypercholesterolemia, while increasing good cholesterol, HDL cholesterol. It is used as an adjunct to other therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or as a monotherapy when other treatments are ineffective. This medication is used alongside dietary management and is prescribed when non-pharmacological measures, such as limiting saturated fat and cholesterol intake, respond inadequately. Before treatment, secondary causes like diabetes and hypothyroidism must be confirmed and controlled, and lipid testing must be thoroughly performed. This medication is used to reduce the risk of hypercholesterolemia and associated atherosclerotic vascular diseases.

Dosage and Administration

This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is from 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day. The recommended initial dosage is 10/10mg or 10/20mg once daily. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol (more than 55%), the recommended initial dosage is 10/40mg once daily. Precautions

This medication may pose a risk of muscle abnormalities, so any symptoms of muscle pain or weakness should be reported to a physician immediately. Severe myopathy or rhabdomyolysis may occur, especially if there is acute infection, hypotension, major surgery, trauma, or electrolyte abnormalities; in such cases, the medication should be temporarily or permanently discontinued. It should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, active liver disease, or muscle disease; pregnant or nursing women; or patients on certain other medications. Caution is advised in patients with poor liver function, alcohol dependence, elderly patients, patients with hypothyroidism, and those with impaired renal function. Regular liver function tests must be conducted before and during therapy, as this medication may cause elevated liver enzyme levels. If symptoms of liver damage occur, treatment should be stopped immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so particular caution is needed when taken with certain antibiotics, antivirals, immunosuppressants, and fibrates. Women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while on this medication and discontinue it immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Caution should also be exercised when driving or operating machinery due to possible symptoms such as dizziness. The safety of this medication has not been established in children and is not recommended; elderly patients should also take caution due to an increased risk of muscle abnormalities. In the case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, and symptomatic treatment and supportive care should be administered while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
