This medication helps to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, especially in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including heterozygous familial and non-familial cases, while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels. It is also used in homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia patients when other therapies are not feasible or effective. This medication is taken in conjunction with dietary measures, particularly when there is a need to restrict saturated fat and cholesterol intake. Before initiating treatment, it is essential to identify and manage other causes of hypercholesterolemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, if necessary. This medication has a positive role in patient health management as it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Adult dosage

This medication should be taken once daily, regardless of meals. The recommended starting doses are 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg once daily. For patients requiring more substantial LDL cholesterol reduction (55% or more), a starting dose of 10/40 mg once daily is recommended. Precautions

This medication can rarely cause a serious side effect known as rhabdomyolysis, which can damage muscle cells and lead to renal dysfunction. If severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, it must be reported to a physician immediately. Additionally, the use of this medication may need to be paused or discontinued in cases of severe infection, hypotension, after major surgery, severe trauma, or metabolic disorders. This medication should not be used in individuals allergic to the active ingredient or components, those with liver disease or persistently elevated liver enzymes, those with muscle disorders, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, individuals taking certain antiviral medications, or those with lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of alcohol abuse, liver disease, severe liver dysfunction, poor renal function, hypothyroidism, a family history of muscle disorders, and elderly patients over 70 years of age should use this medication cautiously. Because this medication can affect liver function, liver function tests should be performed before treatment, and liver conditions should be monitored regularly during treatment. If symptoms of liver damage (e.g., nausea, vomiting, fatigue, jaundice) occur, the physician must be notified immediately and medication should be discontinued. This medication may raise blood glucose levels; therefore, patients at risk for diabetes should monitor their blood glucose levels carefully during treatment. As this medication may interact with other drugs, patients taking certain antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, immunosuppressants, antihypertensives, antidiabetic agents, or oral contraceptives must inform their physician or pharmacist. Women of childbearing age should employ appropriate contraception while taking this medication and discontinue it immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Nursing mothers should also avoid using this medication. Dizziness and other symptoms may occur; therefore, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established, so this medication is not recommended for pediatric use. In the case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment and supportive care are needed according to symptoms, and liver function and muscle enzyme levels should be tested regularly. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
