Improvement of lipids through reduction of cholesterol and increase of HDL in hyperlipidemia and dyslipidemia
This medication assists with dietary management in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia by lowering total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. Additionally, in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, this medication can be used alone or in conjunction with other therapies to reduce elevated cholesterol levels. However, there is no established evidence that this medication is superior to atorvastatin in terms of reducing morbidity and mortality associated with cardiovascular disease. During treatment, it is essential to implement a patient's dietary management and non-pharmaceutical interventions, and to confirm secondary causes, treating as necessary. Systematic management of blood lipid levels is critical, especially in patients with acute coronary events, who should undergo lipid testing at admission or within 24 hours. This medication is effective for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily without regard to meals. The dosage range for primary hypercholesterolemia is 10/10mg to 10/80mg daily. The recommended starting dose is 10/10mg or 10/20mg daily. In cases requiring greater reduction of LDL cholesterol, the recommended starting dose is 10/40mg daily. After initiation or adjustment of dosage, lipid levels in the blood should be confirmed after an interval of at least 2 weeks.
This medication may cause adverse muscle symptoms, so if sudden muscle pain or weakness occurs, consult a physician immediately. Particularly, patients with pre-existing renal impairment or liver disease must inform their healthcare provider before taking this medication. This medication can affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and effective contraceptive methods should be used during treatment. It is also advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. This medication can interact with certain drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform healthcare providers, particularly when taken with drugs that affect liver metabolism. Elderly patients may have a higher risk of muscle adverse reactions, so extra caution is advised. If dizziness, fatigue, digestive disturbances, rashes, or other unusual symptoms occur during treatment, consult a healthcare provider immediately. This medication is not recommended for children due to lack of confirmed safety and efficacy. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, it is important to seek appropriate treatment based on symptoms.
