Improvement of lipids by reducing cholesterol and LDL in primary hypercholesterolemia (homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia, and increasing HDL.
This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels when used in conjunction with dietary therapy in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. It can also be used in conjunction with other treatments or as an alternative to control blood lipid levels in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. The medication is used in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease, alongside dietary therapy, and secondary causes of dyslipidemia must also be identified and treated. Regular testing of blood lipid levels before and after treatment is crucial. This process is used to improve blood lipid status and reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg per day, with an initial recommended dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg per day. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL-cholesterol (more than 55%), an initial dose of 10/40 mg per day is recommended. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, blood lipid levels should be monitored after a period of at least 2 weeks.
This medication can cause a rare side effect that affects muscles known as rhabdomyolysis, so if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, contact a doctor immediately. In particular, if there are conditions that could burden the kidneys such as severe infections, hypotension, major surgeries or trauma, or metabolic disorders, it may be necessary to temporarily suspend the use of this medication. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in this drug, those with poor liver function, patients with muscle diseases, pregnant or nursing women, and those taking certain antiviral medications should not use this medication. Caution is advised for patients with a history of alcohol abuse, liver disease, diminished kidney function, hypothyroidism, muscle-related diseases or family history, and elderly patients over 70 years old. This medication can affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be carried out before and during treatment, and treatment should be discontinued immediately if signs of liver damage appear. During the use of this medication, symptoms such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, muscle pain, joint pain, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc. may occur, and if these symptoms persist or worsen, consult a doctor. There may be interactions with other medications, so if taking certain antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, immunosuppressants, fibrate drugs, colchicine, grapefruit juice, etc., be sure to inform a doctor. Women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while taking this medication, and pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should not use this medication. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children, so it is not recommended. Care should be taken for elderly patients as the risk of myopathy may increase, but dose adjustment is generally not necessary. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so treatment should be symptomatic and liver function and muscle enzyme assessments should be conducted. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
