Reduction of cholesterol in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disease risk suppression via HDL increase
This medication, when used in conjunction with a diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, effectively reduces elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol, while increasing HDL cholesterol. It can be used as an adjunctive therapy when other lipid-lowering treatments are ineffective, particularly in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. While this medication may help lower cardiovascular disease risk in dyslipidemic patients, its efficacy has not been proven to be superior to existing treatments. Prior to medication administration, it is essential to identify other causes like diabetes or hypothyroidism and treat them if necessary. Additionally, it will be used when the response to dietary and non-pharmacological treatments is insufficient. Therefore, this medication is utilized to effectively regulate cholesterol and lipid levels in patients with dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the recommended daily dosage ranges from 10/10mg to 10/80mg, with an initial dose of either 10/10mg or 10/20mg. For patients requiring more significant reductions in LDL cholesterol, an initial dose of 10/40mg is recommended. After starting treatment or adjusting the dosage, lipid levels should be monitored at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
This medication has been reported to cause a rare side effect called rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to severe muscle damage, and it should be temporarily paused or discontinued in patients showing significant muscle symptoms or kidney function problems. Do not use this medication in patients with allergies to its active ingredients, active liver disease, muscle disorders, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, or those taking certain other medications. Caution is advised in those with alcohol dependency, impaired liver function, kidney function problems, or elderly patients with risk factors for myopathy. Especially in cases of muscle-related symptoms, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Side effects such as muscle pain, abdominal pain, and liver function abnormalities may occur during treatment, and it is crucial to routinely check liver function tests and muscle enzyme levels. To reduce the risk of myopathy, muscle enzyme levels should be monitored before and during use of this medication, and any abnormalities should be reported immediately. This medication can interact with various drugs, so patients should inform healthcare professionals of any other medications they are taking, especially those affecting liver metabolism, as dosage adjustments and caution are necessary. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication due to potential risks to the fetus or infant, and women of childbearing age should utilize appropriate contraceptive methods. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, and caution is needed in the elderly due to increased risk of myopathy. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should consult with healthcare professionals before using this medication, and appropriate treatment and examination may be required in case of overdose. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advised not to transfer it to other containers. If dizziness or muscle-related symptoms occur during treatment, it is safest to avoid driving or operating machinery.
