This medication helps reduce high total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglyceride, and non-HDL cholesterol levels and increase good cholesterol HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It can be used as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or given alone if those therapies are insufficient. This medication is used alongside dietary restrictions, such as limiting fat intake, and is administered when they do not respond to other treatments. Before treatment, it is essential to identify any secondary causes, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, and treat them if necessary. Additionally, patients experiencing acute coronary events should have their lipid levels checked upon admission to create an appropriate treatment plan. This medication is used to improve several major indicators of dyslipidemia, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
