This medication aids in lowering total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia when used in conjunction with dietary therapy. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it effectively reduces blood cholesterol levels when used alone or in combination with other lipid-lowering therapies. This medication is administered to patients at high risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to dyslipidemia, and it is crucial to accompany it with appropriate dietary and non-pharmacological therapy. Before administration, secondary causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism should be identified and treated if necessary, with treatment plans based on lipid test results. This medication serves to control lipid levels in the body and improve cardiovascular health.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is from 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg per day, with the initial dose recommended at 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg per day. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol, the initial dose of 10/40 mg per day is recommended. Precautions

This medication is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. However, it may rarely cause muscle damage leading to severe muscle pain or weakness, known as rhabdomyolysis, which can increase the risk of acute renal dysfunction; thus, if severe muscle pain occurs, you must notify your doctor immediately. It is important not to administer this medication to patients with certain conditions. For instance, patients with severely impaired liver function or muscle disorders, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, lactating women, or those taking certain other medications should not use this drug. Regular liver function tests must be conducted while using this medication, and it should be discontinued immediately if any abnormal symptoms appear. Moreover, elderly patients or those with a history of liver disease or high alcohol consumption should use this medication with more caution. This drug may interact with other medications, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Dose adjustments or discontinuation may be necessary, especially when used with drugs that affect liver metabolism or can cause muscle toxicity. Pregnant or lactating women should not take this medication, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive methods while taking it. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established and are therefore not recommended. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and symptomatic treatment and supportive care should be administered while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. Finally, dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.
