Improvement in lipids due to lowering cholesterol and increasing HDL in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medicine is used to improve blood cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It primarily helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. Additionally, this medication can be administered as an adjunct to therapy when dietary measures are insufficient. It is suitable for those who wish to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. When using this medication, it is necessary to consider other secondary causes or risk factors, and comprehensive management is needed. This drug is effectively used for improving hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
This medication is taken once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage ranges from 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day, with a recommended starting dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg per day. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol, a starting dose of 10/40mg per day is recommended. Blood lipid levels should be monitored after starting treatment or adjusting the dosage with intervals of at least 2 weeks.
This medication can rarely cause serious side effects such as rhabdomyolysis, which can damage muscle tissue and lead to acute renal failure. Patients experiencing severe muscle symptomatology or with impaired renal function should temporarily discontinue or cease taking this medication. Patients allergic to the main ingredients or components, those with liver disease or abnormally high liver enzyme levels, patients with muscle diseases, women who are pregnant or nursing, those taking specific antiviral medications, and patients with lactase deficiency should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of alcohol abuse, impaired liver function, reduced kidney function, hypothyroidism, a family history of genetic muscle diseases, and elderly patients due to the increased risk of myopathy. Additionally, patients taking fibrates or exhibiting symptoms of muscle weakness should also be cautious. Side effects such as muscle pain, abdominal pain, or elevated liver enzymes may occur while taking this medication, and serious cases of persistent muscle pain or weakness should be reported to a physician immediately. If symptoms of liver dysfunction appear (e.g., nausea, vomiting, jaundice), treatment should be discontinued, and a physician should be consulted. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while on this medication. Nursing mothers should also avoid this medication. Elderly patients should take caution due to the higher risk of myopathy, but dosage adjustments are typically not necessary. Patients with severely impaired liver function should not take this medication. In the case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, treatment should be based on symptoms, and liver function and muscle damage should be assessed. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should consult their physician or pharmacist when taking medications that particularly affect liver metabolism or increase the risk of myopathy. Caution is advised as dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery. This medication is not recommended for children.
