This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol, and to increase HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It also lowers cholesterol levels in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when used alone or as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering therapies. This medication must be administered along with appropriate dietary therapy for the treatment of dyslipidemia and is used when there is inadequate response to other non-pharmacological measures. It is important to identify and treat secondary causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism before use. In patients with acute coronary events, lipid testing at the beginning of hospitalization can help assess the treatment direction. This medication effectively improves blood lipid levels, thereby helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
