View approved original text

This drug helps lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and increases HDL cholesterol levels. It is also used as an adjunct or alternative to other lipid-lowering treatments for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be administered in conjunction with an appropriate diet, and is used when there is inadequate response to dietary treatment. Additionally, before taking the medication, secondary causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated. In patients with an acute coronary event, lipid testing should be performed upon hospitalization or within 24 hours of admission to aid in creating an appropriate treatment plan. This drug is used to effectively improve hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.

Special caution is needed if the patient has impaired kidney function, liver disease, hypothyroidism, is elderly, or is taking certain medications, as the risk may be increased. If muscle pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, or muscle pain accompanied by fever occurs, the patient must inform their doctor immediately and undergo examination. The drug can also affect liver function, so regular liver enzyme tests should be conducted before and during treatment, and the treatment should be discontinued if liver dysfunction symptoms appear.
