Improvement of lipid levels through reduction of cholesterol and increase of HDL in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia
This medication helps lower the total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. It is used as an adjunct therapy in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or in cases where other treatments are ineffective. This drug is to be taken in conjunction with dietary management, and multiple risk factors should be considered in the treatment of dyslipidemia. Prior to use, secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism must be identified and treated when necessary, and lipid level measurements should determine the appropriate treatment direction. This helps improve blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
This medication is administered once daily without regard to meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is from 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg per day, with a recommended initial dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg per day. For patients who require a greater reduction in LDL-cholesterol, an initial dose of 10/40 mg per day is recommended. After administration or dosage adjustments, lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
This drug may cause a rare side effect called rhabdomyolysis, which can affect muscles, so if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, consult a doctor immediately. This drug may affect liver function, so liver function tests should be conducted before starting treatment, and regular monitoring of liver function should occur during treatment. It is safer not to use this drug if there is a history of liver disease or elevated liver enzyme levels. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication. This drug should not be administered to patients with certain allergies or genetic lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of alcoholism or liver disease, poor kidney function, or hypothyroidism should use this medication cautiously. There are many potential interactions with other drugs, especially those that can affect the muscles, so it is important to inform the physician of all medications being taken. While taking this drug, immediately inform the doctor of any symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, or fever, and if necessary, blood tests should be performed to check for muscle damage. Side effects such as dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea may occur, and if these symptoms persist, consult with a healthcare professional. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery while taking this drug, especially if dizziness is experienced. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established, so this drug is not recommended for use in this population. In the event of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment and supportive therapy are needed based on the symptoms, and liver function and muscle condition should be monitored. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
