This medication helps lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, and raises HDL cholesterol levels. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, either in combination with or as an alternative to other lipid-lowering therapy. This medication should be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet, and is effective in cases where dietary control alone is insufficient. Before administration, the secondary causes of dyslipidemia should be identified and treated if necessary. During treatment, levels of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides should be monitored, and lipid testing is recommended for patients with acute coronary events upon admission. In light of these considerations, this medication is used for cholesterol control and treatment of dyslipidemia.
