Improvement of lipids by reducing cholesterol and increasing HDL in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
This medication is used to improve blood cholesterol and related lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. In particular, it effectively lowers levels of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol, while increasing HDL-cholesterol. This medication can also be used as an adjunctive treatment for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and serves as an alternative therapy when other lipid-lowering treatments are not effective. It is important to combine use with appropriate dietary measures and non-pharmacological actions, allowing for maximum efficacy by identifying and treating secondary causes of dyslipidemia. This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and improve blood lipid levels.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, an initial dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg once daily is recommended. For patients requiring a greater reduction (more than 55%) in LDL-cholesterol, an initial dose of 10/40 mg once daily is recommended. After initiating treatment or adjusting the dose, blood lipid levels should be monitored at intervals of at least 2 weeks.
This medication has a risk of serious muscle problems, so if sudden muscle pain or weakness occurs, consult a doctor immediately. In cases of severe infection, hypotension, major surgery or trauma, or electrolyte imbalances that may worsen kidney function, it may be necessary to temporarily discontinue this medication. Individuals allergic to the active ingredients or components of this medication, those with severe liver dysfunction, muscle diseases, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, and individuals who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Additionally, those undergoing treatment with certain antiviral drugs or individuals with lactose intolerance should not use this medication. People with a history of alcohol dependency or liver disease, severe liver dysfunction, poor kidney function, hypothyroidism, and elderly individuals, who may be at higher risk for muscle issues, should use this medication with caution. Be cautious if taking fibrate-class medication concurrently. This medication may cause side effects such as muscle pain, abdominal pain, and elevated liver enzymes; in severe cases, it may lead to muscle destruction, so notify a doctor if symptoms occur. There may be liver function abnormalities, so liver function tests should be conducted before starting treatment and during treatment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication as it can be harmful to the fetus or infant, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while taking it. This medication is not recommended for children as its safety has not been established. Elderly patients should pay particular attention due to the higher risk of muscle problems, and patients with poor liver or kidney function should take it according to a doctor's instructions. This medication has many drug interactions, so dose adjustments or caution may be needed according to the medications being taken, so inform healthcare professionals about all medications being used. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment and liver function and muscle enzyme tests should be conducted. Finally, keep this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container.
