This medication helps lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing good cholesterol, HDL cholesterol. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia either in conjunction with other treatments or alone. This medication is used alongside dietary therapy and non-pharmacological methods and is administered when cholesterol control is difficult with diet alone. It is important to identify and treat secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, before treatment. During treatment, regular monitoring of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels is necessary for proper management. Through these actions, it aids in reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease.
