Improvement of lipids through reduction of cholesterol in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia and increase of HDL.
This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is also used as an adjunctive therapy together with conventional treatments for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or when other treatments are ineffective. This medication is used in conjunction with an appropriate diet, and other causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism should also be managed. It is important to establish a treatment plan considering lipid profile tests and the patient’s overall condition. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood lipid levels associated with dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day. A starting dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg per day is recommended. If a reduction of LDL cholesterol of more than 55% is needed, the initial dose is 10/40mg per day. After initiation of therapy or adjustment of dosage, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
This medication carries a risk of muscle abnormalities, so if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, it should be reported to a physician immediately. Especially in cases of severe infection, hypotension, after major surgery, trauma, severe metabolic or endocrine disorders, the use of this medication may need to be temporarily discontinued or stopped. This medication should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or excipients, those with severe liver dysfunction, muscle diseases, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or those taking certain other medications. Those with a history of alcohol dependence or liver disease, impaired kidney function, or hypothyroidism, elderly patients, and those taking certain medications should use this medication cautiously and require regular monitoring as advised by a physician. Muscle pain, abdominal pain, hepatic dysfunction, etc., may occur while taking this medication; thus, if symptoms arise, consultation with a physician is recommended. Regular liver function tests should be conducted, and the medication should be stopped immediately if signs of liver damage appear. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication as it may harm the fetus or baby, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive methods. This medication is not recommended for children, as safety and efficacy in pediatrics have not been established. Caution is needed in elderly patients due to a higher risk of muscle abnormalities, although dosage adjustment is typically not necessary. Patients with poor kidney function should be carefully monitored due to the risk of muscle abnormalities. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; symptomatic treatment and supportive care are necessary while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. This medication can interact with various drugs; therefore, inform the physician or pharmacist if taking other medications, especially those influencing liver metabolism. Dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery, thus caution is advised. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
