This medication helps lower high total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, especially in familial or non-familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia, while also increasing good cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other treatments are ineffective or when additional therapy is needed. This medication is more effective when taken in conjunction with a diet and contributes to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Prior to treatment, it is important to identify and treat other causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism. Regular monitoring of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels is recommended, and early initiation of treatment is advised, especially in cases of acute coronary disease. This medication is used effectively to improve hypercholesterolemia and enhance cardiovascular health.
