This medication is used as an adjunct to diet for lowering elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in heterogeneous familial and non-familial cases, and to raise HDL cholesterol levels. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it is administered alone when other therapies are ineffective or in conjunction with other treatments to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. This medication targets patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia and is used when there is inadequate response to appropriate dietary control and non-drug treatments. It is essential to identify and treat any secondary causes of the disease beforehand. Blood lipid levels should be regularly monitored before and during treatment to assess the effectiveness of the therapy. This medication is effectively used for treating dyslipidemia.
