View approved original text

This medication helps to decrease elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also effective in lowering blood cholesterol in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when used alone or in conjunction with other therapies. It is used as a lipid-modifying medication alongside appropriate dietary management for patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease and is also administered as an adjunct when dietary intervention is insufficient. Prior to the use of this medication, it is essential to identify and manage other secondary causes such as diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Regular testing of lipid levels is necessary, and if triglycerides are high, precise management using special testing methods is required. Overall, this medication is an effective treatment for improving blood lipids associated with dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication poses a risk of serious muscle problems, and treatment should be stopped immediately if acute myopathy or rhabdomyolysis is suspected. It should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active ingredient, severe liver disease, muscle disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those taking specific other medications. Patients with impaired liver function, alcohol dependence, elderly patients, or those with specific disease histories should use this drug with caution and undergo regular monitoring of liver and muscle conditions. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, or fever occur during treatment, the physician should be informed immediately and blood tests should check for muscle damage. Liver function abnormalities may occur, so liver enzyme levels should be monitored before and during treatment, and treatment should be stopped if signs of liver damage appear.
