Improvement of lipids by cholesterol reduction and increase of HDL in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia.
This medication is used to improve blood lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, both familial and non-familial, by decreasing total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is also administered as an adjunct treatment in patients with mixed dyslipidemia to control triglycerides and abnormal lipid levels. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it can be used as a treatment that may support or replace other lipid-lowering therapies. This medication is administered alongside a dietary regimen while appropriately managing the patient’s overall cardiovascular risk factors. However, caution is advised as research is limited for certain types of dyslipidemia. Overall, it effectively improves abnormalities in blood lipids, aiding in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg once daily, with a recommended initial dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg. If a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol is needed, an initial dose of 10/40 mg daily is recommended. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, cholesterol levels should be checked after an interval of more than 2 weeks.
This medication is used to lower blood cholesterol levels. Before taking this drug, attention should be paid to serious muscle problems, particularly symptoms of severe muscle pain or weakness. If such symptoms occur, inform a doctor immediately, and discontinue use if necessary. Patients with impaired liver function or liver disease should not take this medication and should undergo regular liver function tests while on treatment. Women who are pregnant or possibly pregnant, and breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. If planning a pregnancy, consult a healthcare professional. When taken with certain other medications, the risk of muscle damage may increase, so if taking other drugs, inform a doctor or pharmacist. Elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function should also be cautious when taking this medication, with close monitoring of muscle-related symptoms. This drug may rarely cause various adverse reactions such as hepatitis, skin rash, allergic reactions, and gastrointestinal symptoms, so if abnormal symptoms occur, inform a healthcare professional immediately. Furthermore, appropriate contraception must be used while taking this medication, and caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and symptomatic treatment and supportive therapy are required, along with monitoring of liver function and muscle enzyme levels.
