This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to lower elevated total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, and to increase good cholesterol HDL cholesterol. It is also used as adjunctive therapy when other treatments are not effective in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug should be administered along with a proper dietary regimen including restriction of saturated fat and cholesterol, taking into account risk factors for dyslipidemia and other health conditions. The use of this medication helps to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases.

Precautions

This medication contains atorvastatin and ezetimibe, which are used to lower blood cholesterol levels. Care should be taken when taking this medication due to the risk of muscle-related problems. Particularly, if symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle cramps, or muscle weakness occur, you should inform your doctor immediately and get tested. It may also affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment. If symptoms of liver dysfunction (e.g., fatigue, nausea, jaundice) occur, stop taking the medication and consult your doctor. The risk of side effects may increase if taken with certain other medications, so be sure to inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, especially when combined with certain antibiotics, antivirals, immunosuppressants, and fibrates. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and breastfeeding mothers should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with kidney or liver problems or those who consume excessive alcohol, as well as elderly patients, should be especially cautious when taking this medication and may require dosage adjustments or monitoring as directed by their doctor.
