View approved original text

This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. It is administered either alone or in combination as needed with other diabetes medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin while primarily following dietary and exercise regimens. Particularly, it is used in combination to effectively manage blood sugar for those who have not previously been treated for diabetes or have difficulty controlling blood sugar with monotherapy. This medication is also used to enhance treatment effects when blood sugar control is insufficient with various therapeutic combinations. Its flexible application across various treatment scenarios improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered once daily at a dosage of 100 mg for monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. This medication can be taken regardless of meals. For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustments are necessary based on renal function. - For mild renal impairment (eGFR 60 or greater but less than 90), no dosage adjustment is necessary. - For moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45 or greater but less than 60), no dosage adjustment is necessary. -

Precautions

This medication is used for diabetes treatment and is designed to help with blood sugar control. Rarely, serious allergic reactions may occur during treatment, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, it is essential to discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Pancreatitis, a serious side effect involving inflammation of the pancreas, may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise, inform healthcare providers immediately. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, nor in those allergic to this medication or its components. Dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with impaired renal function, and regular kidney function assessments are crucial. During treatment, symptoms such as cold symptoms, headaches, upper respiratory infections, and nasopharyngitis may appear, and some patients may experience gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain. When used with other antihyperglycemic agents or insulin, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so it is important to be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms and adjust doses of antihyperglycemic agents as necessary. This medication is not recommended during pregnancy and should be avoided while breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy for children and adolescents have not yet been established. Elderly patients may have a risk of reduced renal function, requiring dose adjustments and regular monitoring of kidney function. In cases of overdose, certain medications can be removed through blood dialysis in conjunction with general treatment, so it is important to avoid exceeding the recommended dosage. If severe joint pain or skin blisters occur during treatment, inform a physician immediately, and medication may need to be discontinued if necessary. While interactions with other drugs are generally low, caution is required when used with digoxin, and appropriate monitoring should be discussed with a physician. It has been confirmed that this medication does not significantly affect cardiovascular safety, but consistent observation is necessary even in patients with preexisting cardiovascular diseases.
