This medication is used alongside dietary control and exercise therapy to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling blood sugar levels. It can be administered alone or in combination with other diabetes treatments, helping to effectively improve blood sugar levels.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage for this medication when used as monotherapy or in combination therapy is 20 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals. Dose adjustment is not necessary for patients with renal impairment. Dose adjustment is not necessary for patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment.

Precautions

This medication is used for treating diabetes and should not be administered to certain patients. Patients who are allergic to the active ingredient or any other component of this medication should not take it. Additionally, it is not suitable for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, or type 1 diabetes, and those with severe infections or patients undergoing surgery requiring insulin treatment should also avoid this medication. Patients with severe liver dysfunction or heart failure should use this medication with caution, especially if the heart failure is severe. Caution is also required for patients taking sulfonylureas or insulin due to the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, constipation, liver dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, skin rash, and acute pancreatitis, so patients should consult their healthcare provider if any unusual symptoms occur. Particularly, when taken alongside medications like insulin or sulfonylureas that can induce hypoglycemia, patients should monitor for signs of hypoglycemia closely and take appropriate measures if symptoms arise. This medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor has its safety in children been established. Elderly patients may have decreased physical functions, so careful observation of the patient's condition during administration is necessary. In cases of overdose, the removal of the medication from the gastrointestinal tract and monitoring of the patient's condition with tests such as ECG, and administering necessary treatment should be performed. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided. Finally, it is important to consult a physician immediately if symptoms such as hypoglycemia, acute abdominal pain, skin rash, or blisters occur during the use of this medication.
