Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps to assist dietary and exercise therapy for blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications. It aids diabetes treatment by improving blood sugar management.
The recommended dosage of this medication, whether used alone or in combination, is 20 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it is not suitable for patients with allergies to the main ingredient or other components, patients with type 1 diabetes who require insulin therapy, or patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also not recommended for patients with severe infections, before and after surgery, or those who have sustained severe trauma. Patients with very poor liver function or heart failure should use this medication with caution, and it is especially advisable not to use it in patients with severe heart failure. Patients taking sulfonylureas or insulin, those with poor nutritional status or irregular eating habits, individuals who engage in excessive physical activity, or those who consume excessive alcohol should also be cautious. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction, those with heart rhythm abnormalities or at risk of QT interval prolongation should also be careful when using this medication. Additionally, symptoms of acute pancreatitis may occur, so if experiencing severe abdominal pain or vomiting, one must seek medical attention immediately. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas. If symptoms of hypoglycemia appear, appropriate measures such as consuming foods containing sugar should be taken, and particularly glucose administration may be required. If during treatment one experiences dizziness, constipation, abdominal pain, or vomiting, consult a physician, and carefully observe for possible abnormal liver function, pneumonia, skin rashes, and other adverse effects. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication as its safety has not been established and must consult a physician if necessary. The safety has not been confirmed in children, so it is advisable not to use this medication in pediatric patients. Elderly patients may exhibit reduced physical function, so monitoring their condition closely during administration is necessary. In the case of overdose, measures should be taken to remove the medication from the gastrointestinal tract and monitor the condition through tests such as electrocardiograms for appropriate treatment. This medication may interact with other medications, so when taken with insulin, sulfonylureas, beta-blockers, or certain antiarrhythmics, blood sugar levels and the patient's condition must be thoroughly monitored. If experiencing symptoms of hypoglycemia, acute pancreatitis, severe joint pain, or skin blisters or rashes while taking this medication, notify a physician immediately and receive appropriate management.
