This medication helps in controlling blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes and is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It can be administered alone, and if a patient has no previous experience with diabetes medications and is unable to achieve sufficient blood sugar control alone, it can be combined with metformin. Additionally, this medication is used in combination therapy when blood sugar control is inadequate with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin. Even in various combination therapies, if blood sugar control is difficult, this medication can be added to enhance therapeutic effects. This way, it effectively improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes through diverse treatment methods and combinations.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered at a dose of 100 mg once daily for monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. Precautions

This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur after taking it, stop taking it immediately and seek medical advice. This medication can cause acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur while taking it, consult a doctor immediately. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not take this medication, nor should patients allergic to its components. Patients with impaired renal function need dose adjustment, so consult a doctor if there are any kidney diseases. While taking this medication, symptoms similar to a cold, headache, indigestion, diarrhea, etc., may occur, and hypoglycemic symptoms may also arise, so caution is necessary. Particularly, when taking insulin or sulfonylureas together, the risk of hypoglycemia increases, thus blood sugar levels should be checked frequently and doses of those medications adjusted if necessary. If symptoms of severe joint pain or skin blisters occur, stop taking this medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are recommended not to take this medication, and safety and efficacy have not been established for individuals under 18 years of age. Elderly patients should have their renal function checked before and after taking this medication, and doses adjusted if necessary due to risks of renal impairment. In case of overdose, visit a medical institution immediately to receive appropriate treatment, and this medication can be partially removed through hemodialysis. There are minimal interactions with other medications, but when taking certain medications, consult with a doctor or pharmacist to use them safely.
