Treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis (age 5 years and older) and nocturia associated with nocturnal polyuria (adults)
This medication is used to treat nocturia symptoms due to nocturnal enuresis in patients aged 5 years and older and in adults.
Treatment of nocturia associated with nocturnal polyuria (adults only): Take 0.1mg of desmopressin acetate orally at bedtime. If the effect is insufficient after one week, increase the dose to 0.2mg. If the effect remains insufficient, the dose may be increased at weekly intervals up to 0.4mg. Discontinue treatment if there is no clinical effect within 4 weeks after the dose has been determined. Initiating treatment with this medicine is not recommended in patients aged 65 years or older. If treatment is required in elderly patients, closely monitor serum sodium levels and other parameters. (See section 5. General Precautions under Precautions for Use)
Primary nocturnal enuresis (5 years and older): Take 0.2mg of desmopressin acetate orally at bedtime. If the effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased to 0.4mg. Whether to continue treatment should be determined after 3 months of administration, following a treatment-free period of at least 1 week.
This medication helps regulate the balance of water in the body. When taking this medication, it is essential to manage water intake. Drinking too much water can lower sodium levels in the body, potentially leading to coma or severe side effects. Especially in older adults, the risk of decreased sodium levels due to this medication is greater; thus, water intake should be restricted, and blood tests should be done regularly. Patients with allergies to this medication or those with certain kidney diseases, heart dysfunction, or those taking diuretics should not use it. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously, and consult with a physician if necessary. Additionally, this medication may interact with some other drugs, so patients must inform their doctor or pharmacist about all medications they are taking. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, seizures, and loss of consciousness may occur, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required, and water intake should be restricted and appropriate treatment should be administered if needed. While this medication does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, caution should be exercised if side effects occur.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Store this medication in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1°C and 30°C at room temperature to preserve the medication's effectiveness.
