This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. It is administered alongside an appropriate diet that mainly includes restrictions on saturated fats and cholesterol, and is utilized when dietary control and other non-drug treatments alone are insufficient. This medication is used for individuals at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, and it is important to identify and manage secondary causes that induce dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, prior to administration. Key lipid tests to monitor during treatment include total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, and triglycerides. Additionally, if acute coronary events occur, lipid levels should be quickly assessed to help establish an appropriate treatment plan. This medication is effectively used for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
