Improvement of cholesterol and lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and dyslipidemia
This drug is used as an adjunct to diet therapy to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and to raise HDL-cholesterol. It is particularly suitable for patients with a high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia and is administered when dietary changes and other non-drug treatments do not provide sufficient response. It is important to check for other causes of dyslipidemia and treat them while using this drug, and to measure cholesterol and triglyceride levels before and after treatment. This process helps effectively control blood lipid levels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
This drug is taken once a day, regardless of meals. The dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/40mg once daily, with a recommended initial dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg. For patients requiring greater reductions in LDL-cholesterol, the dosage may be adjusted. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks before making further dosage adjustments.
This drug has been reported to cause a rare side effect known as rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to severe muscle damage. Therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Additionally, this drug should be temporarily discontinued or stopped in cases where conditions may worsen muscle damage, such as severe infections, hypotension, major surgery or trauma, and metabolic disorders. This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with allergies to the drug ingredients, active liver disease, muscle diseases, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and patients taking certain other medications should not take this drug. Patients with a history of alcohol addiction or liver disease, those with impaired kidney function, and those with hypothyroidism should use this drug with particular caution. Furthermore, careful use is required in elderly patients over 70 years of age or in patients with risk factors for myopathy. During treatment with this drug, regular liver function tests and muscle-related tests are necessary, and if liver enzyme levels become abnormally high or muscle pain worsens, the physician should be notified immediately. This drug may interact with other medications, so if other medications are being taken, the physician or pharmacist must be informed. Particularly, when used in conjunction with specific antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and immunosuppressants, the risk of muscle damage may increase. Women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy should not take this drug, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while taking this drug. Nursing mothers should also avoid this medication. This drug is not recommended for children as safety has not been established. Elderly patients also have a risk of myopathy; thus, caution is necessary, but no separate dosage adjustment is needed. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, appropriate treatment should be given based on symptoms, and liver function and muscle status should be monitored. This drug should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers is to be avoided.
