This medicine is used as an adjunct to diet to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and to raise good HDL cholesterol levels. This drug helps in lipid management to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and should be taken along with a dietary regimen that includes restriction of saturated fats and cholesterol. Before administration, secondary causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be evaluated and necessary treatments should be conducted. Evaluation of lipid levels requires tests including total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and special tests in severe cases. Rapid lipid testing and initiation of appropriate treatment are recommended for patients with acute coronary events. This drug is effectively used for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
