Lipid-lowering effect by reducing cholesterol and increasing HDL in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication lowers total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, especially heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia, as well as mixed dyslipidemia. Meanwhile, it increases HDL-cholesterol levels, helping to maintain healthy lipid status. This medication is used in conjunction with an appropriate diet and is administered when dietary adjustments or non-drug therapies are insufficient. Additionally, it is safely used in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease, and it is crucial to thoroughly check for other causes of dyslipidemia before treatment. This medication effectively regulates blood lipid levels and is used to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease and improve overall cardiovascular health.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg daily, with a recommended initial dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg. In patients needing more significant reductions in LDL-cholesterol, the dosage can be adjusted. After initiating treatment or adjusting the dose, blood lipid levels should be monitored at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
This medication may affect muscles and has a rare possibility of causing rhabdomyolysis, which can damage muscle tissue and lead to kidney dysfunction. During treatment with this medication, if you experience muscle pain, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, or fatigue with fever, you must inform your doctor immediately, and blood tests may be needed to check for muscle damage. Additionally, in cases of acute infections, hypotension, major surgery, trauma, or endocrine diseases that have a high risk of muscle damage, it may be necessary to temporarily discontinue or stop this medication. This medication should not be used in individuals with an allergy to its components, those with active liver disease, muscle disease, pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, nursing mothers, or those taking specific antiviral medications. Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients at higher risk of myopathy, such as those with impaired liver function, alcoholics, the elderly, and patients with hypothyroidism. Regular liver function tests and muscle-related tests are necessary. This medication may increase liver enzyme levels, so liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment, and treatment should be discontinued immediately if symptoms of liver damage occur. This medication may also increase blood glucose levels, so patients at risk for diabetes should manage their blood sugar levels diligently. When used in combination with other medications, the concentration of this medication in the blood may increase due to interactions, or the risk of side effects may rise; therefore, if you are currently taking other medications, you must consult your doctor or pharmacist. Women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraceptive methods while taking this medication, and treatment should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It is advisable for nursing mothers to refrain from taking this medication. Safety in children has not been established and is therefore not recommended. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic, and monitoring of liver function and muscle damage is important.
