Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication helps to control blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It particularly lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels, known as 'good cholesterol.' It is used alongside a dietary regimen to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases. Additionally, this medication is effective for some types of dyslipidemia, and it is important to assess and adequately treat other secondary causes before use. It is recommended when dietary control is inadequate and can be used safely under appropriate examination and management. Thus, it contributes to improving blood lipid status and maintaining cardiovascular health.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage range is from 10/10mg to 10/40mg daily. A starting dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg daily is recommended. For patients requiring more significant LDL cholesterol reduction, the dosage can be adjusted. After starting treatment or upon adjusting the dosage, blood lipid levels should be checked after intervals of more than 2 weeks before adjusting the dose.

Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with a history of alcohol abuse or liver disease, patients with moderate to severe liver impairment, patients with weak kidney function or hypothyroidism, and elderly patients who are at higher risk for myopathy. Patients taking this medication should have regular liver function tests and muscle-related examinations, and should inform healthcare providers immediately if symptoms such as abnormal liver function, muscle pain, muscle weakness, or muscle cramps occur. This medication may interact with other drugs; patients should inform their physician of all medications they are currently taking, especially when used in combination with certain antibiotics, antivirals, immunosuppressants, and fibrates. Women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive methods while taking this medication and must not take it during pregnancy. This medication is not recommended for children as its safety and efficacy have not been established in this age group. Elderly patients are at higher risk for myopathy; caution should be exercised during administration, although dose adjustment is usually not necessary. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function must consult with their physician before taking this medication, and it should not be administered in cases of severe liver impairment. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment and supportive care should be administered based on symptoms, and regular liver function and muscle-related tests should be conducted.
