This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to reduce serum total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in heterozygous familial and non-familial cases, as well as mixed dyslipidemia. It should be administered in conjunction with an appropriate diet for patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease or who need treatment for dyslipidemia, and any secondary causes should also be treated if present. Furthermore, before administration of this medication, lipid level tests should be conducted to accurately assess the patient's condition, and treatment efficacy and safety should be monitored. This medication helps in preventing atherosclerotic vascular diseases and is effective in improving lipid profiles in patients.

Precautions

This medication may rarely cause a side effect known as rhabdomyolysis, which damages muscle tissue and can lead to serious kidney dysfunction. Therefore, patients experiencing severe muscle issues or at high risk for muscle damage should suspend or discontinue use of this medication. Patients who are allergic to any of the components of this medication, have severe liver dysfunction, have muscle disorders, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are taking certain other medications should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of alcoholism or liver disease, those with severe liver dysfunction, high risk for myopathy, elderly patients, or those taking specific other medications. If muscle pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, fever, or other symptoms occur during treatment, patients should immediately notify their healthcare provider and check muscle enzyme levels. Liver function abnormalities may arise, so liver function tests should be conducted before administration, and periodic checks of liver function status should continue during treatment. This medication should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, and women of childbearing age should employ appropriate contraception. Its safety in children has not been established and is therefore not recommended. Elderly patients should be cautious as they are at higher risk for muscle complications.
