Improvement of cholesterol and lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and dyslipidemia
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to lower levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol, and to increase HDL cholesterol levels. It is prescribed in conjunction with a dietary regimen that includes restrictions on saturated fat and cholesterol intake and is administered when diet control or non-drug methods are insufficient. Additionally, this medication is used in the treatment of patients at high risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, and it should be considered along with multiple risk factors. Before starting treatment, any other causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, should be identified and treated as necessary. Therefore, this medication is effectively used to improve blood lipid levels in the treatment of dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. The dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg per day. A starting dose of either 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg is recommended. If a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol is needed, the dosage can be adjusted. After starting the administration or adjusting the dosage, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks before dosage adjustments.
This medication can cause serious problems in muscles, so if symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness occur, a doctor should be notified immediately. In rare cases, this medication can cause muscle tissue destruction leading to kidney function issues, so caution is needed in patients with a history of kidney disease. Patients with poor liver function or a history of liver disease should consult with a doctor before taking this medication and should undergo regular liver function tests. This medication should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or who are breastfeeding. Due to lactose content, patients with lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised when consuming excessive alcohol or in cases of liver disease, as this may increase the risk of liver damage when taking this medication. Elderly patients (65 years and older) are at higher risk for muscle-related side effects, so careful monitoring is needed during administration. This medication may increase the risk of side effects when taken with certain other medications, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. During treatment, liver function tests and blood muscle enzyme levels should be monitored regularly to detect any abnormal signs early. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Do not change or stop the dosage arbitrarily; take exactly as directed by your doctor. If any symptoms that are not suitable for you or unusual reactions occur, consult medical staff immediately.
